At Touch Initiative, we believe that empowering communities begins with addressing the fundamental challenges of livelihoods and food security. Our efforts in Sololo, Marsabit County, aim to uplift vulnerable communities from chronic poverty through sustainable, community-driven solutions.
The Reality of Food Insecurity in Sololo
Sololo, a region marked by recurrent droughts and limited economic opportunities, faces significant challenges in maintaining food security. Many households struggle to access sufficient and nutritious food, leading to malnutrition and poor health, especially among children and the elderly.
How We Are Making a Difference
Touch Initiative works closely with local communities to identify practical, culturally relevant solutions to these challenges. We support projects such as:
Agricultural Training: Providing education on sustainable farming practices, drought-resistant crops, and post-harvest management.
Income-Generating Activities: Training in small-scale entrepreneurship to diversify income sources and reduce dependency on inconsistent farming.
Community Savings Groups: Facilitating Self Help Groups (SHGs) to promote financial literacy and collective saving habits.
Success Stories
Through our agricultural training programs, many families have started small kitchen gardens that not only feed their households but also generate extra income from selling surplus produce. Similarly, our Self Help Groups have empowered women to take leadership roles, manage savings, and invest in community projects.
Join Us in Creating Lasting Change
We believe that together, we can continue to build resilient communities equipped to overcome the challenges of food insecurity. If you’re passionate about empowering communities, consider partnering with us to create sustainable, positive change.
